About Buzzards Bay Bikes
Sailworld Cape Cod
Jim & Pam Ballantyne - Owners
Jim started Sailworld back in 1986. After school in Westfield, MA he headed for a ski career in Europe. He spent 6 years in Austria becoming a fully certified Austrian Ski Instructor at the Bundessportheim St. Christoph.
He worked in Obertuaren , and in Ramsau am Dachstein. Summers where spent on Lake Garda, Italy windsurfing and the transformation from snow to water had begun. In 1983 he became a fully certified windsurf instructor in Austria and upon completion came back to the USA to start a windsurfing school in Lake George, NY. He then left for Cape Hatteras, NC as assistant manager of the Kitty Hawk Sports Sailing center in Nags Head. After Hatteras he headed for the Florida Keys and ran a school at John Pennecamp State Park on Key Largo and a school at The Holiday Isle Resort on Islamorada. The urge to also own a retail store was too great and eventually he started his own shop in Port Orange, FL just south of Daytona Beach. This is where he met his wife Pam. Pam was an elementary school teacher in New Smyrna Beach FL. and quickly became more and more involved in the Sailworld business. Now she handles all aspects of the business specializing in women specific gear and athletic apparel, and is our chief lady cyclist. Mountain biking is a huge part of our lives and Pam leads the charge to ride, explore and chart out some new trails. "Of all the paths one takes in life, make sure a few consist of dirt."

Kaylen Ballantyne is now managing the store and heading up the windsurfing and SUP instruction programs here. He also is a Enduro mountain biking champion winning both the 2016 Box East Coast Showdown and the 2016 Vittoria ESC Enduro Series. We decided Summer of 2019 to change the name to Buzzards Bay Bikes to better suit the direction our store is headed.
We believe in personal service from a small family-owned business.
